Ananda Helipad
After taking all clearances for the required flight for helicopter VTMIA on 01 May 2011 from Indocopter helipad at Greater Noida to Ananda in Dehradun we got airborne at 1000 IST as planned.
En route flight was uneventful and maintained direct route contacting Delhi, Hindon, Sarsawa and finally contacted Dehra Dun. We were asked to report over destination Helipad. Only traffic I heard was some Jet airways approaching D’ Dun and other was a helicopter making final approach at Sahastr Dhara H, other side of airfield.
When over Ananda, I informed Dehra Dun and landed. No traffic advisory was issued. I found many police and vehicles parked there and so I switched off, after asking the police, if it was right H. And passengers were off loaded. And at approx 1130, problems started. I was told that CM was to land there in 30 min from Sahastra Dhara and my landing was unauthorized. Another shock was the order of the DM of that district, Tehri Gadhwal, and Helicopter was seized. She asked copy of clearance and as, that was not with me I needed time to get that and refuel as well. In the mean time Ananda resort personal said they will take 5’ to bring copy of clearance but that was refused. The bag of Helicopter with all documents was taken away by the police and I was forced to take off without them in contradiction to DGCA rules. I could only inform Dehradun Airfield on landline of my arrival and thankfully they accepted. After landing there I refueled and went to aerodrome tower, where I was refused permission to even file a clearance. In the mean time I got a call from DFO saying that we had done a great crime by landing at a forest property and scaring flora and fauna!! (Ananda Resort claims to have that helipad and have been using for last 10 yrs.) The helicopter will be seized for ever and I will be permitted to return back on signing a personal bail which I did sign for Rs 50,000. Me and my AME, returned to Ananda resort for the night. One entire day was wasted by calls asking rules to fix my CO and resort. I was also informed that FIR was launched against me.
CAR in the meantime, says that the authorities are to be intimated before landing which was done by the Ananda Resort. DM says that the receipts of the letter informing SDM of arrival of helicopter were forged!!
02 May night was peaceful in the lap of Himalayas.
03May. Other 2 colleagues arrived from Delhi and met aviation dept and were assured then that helper will be released if DM has no abjection to it. When they met DM, she told she will look into the matter if Aviation Secretary has no objection!! Lunch time was passed. Evening 1730- time was gone and I was forced to join again my 2 co mates for moral support.
04 May was a real hectic day for my Co’s office bearers to finalize clearance and running between DM and DFO office but were able to take clearance but we failed to return back as the Dehradun Airport Authorities refused to permit us to enter even Airport!!!!!!!!!!
Well 05 May we made it back and I am sure there will be no further action on this!!!!!!!! Lessons? In a developing country? You must be kidding!!!!!

Capt MK Sharma dies without Insurance money.
Capt MK Sharma died on 23 Apr. He was only 48 yrs. Last year in Jun he was diagnosed with blood cancer. He was in n out of hospital throughout. His wt reduced from 100kg to 66 kg only. He informed FIP who started giving him monthly insurance. Since Feb he was very critical and in ICU. He tried to get an appt in CME for a review board so that he could be declared permanently unfit. Things took a turn for the worst and he died before he could get himself declared unfit. Now FIP says he is not entitled for his 1CR INSURANCE coz the policy does not cover sudden death due to critical illness.
It is a request to all our fraternity to pass on this message and garner support for lobbying with FIP and the underwriter Bajaj Alliance to pay out the dues to his wife. Imagine having a stroke and then hope that you don’t die before getting yourself declared unfit by DGCA permanently. Isn’t that a cruel joke.
